Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Computer Science

Pomona College seeks applications for an Open-Rank (assistant, associate, or full) Professor of Computer Science, to begin on July 1, 2024. All subfields of computer science will be considered, with preference for candidates whose research and teaching interests complement those of the current faculty. Candidates should have a broad background in computer science, be excellent teachers, have an active research program, and be excited about directing undergraduate research. The teaching load is two courses a semester for the two semesters a year. Faculty are expected to teach across all levels of the curriculum. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by the start date.

Pomona's Computer Science department has 8 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty, and we are hoping to grow to 12 over the next five years. There are over 25 CS faculty across the Claremont colleges. In collaboration with the Claremont College Consortium, Pomona College offers a variety of professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities for junior faculty including the opportunity for entering faculty members to apply for a fully-funded leave in their fourth year at the College.

Two Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Sciences

Pomona College seeks applications for a two-year visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science, to begin on July 1, 2024. The teaching load is the equivalent of five semester-long courses a year. Faculty are expected to teach across all levels of the curriculum. Candidates with a Ph.D. in computer science or related fields or at the later stage of Ph.D. study are welcome to apply. The annual salary for this role is between $80,000 and $88,000 with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: field of expertise, professorial rank, education completion, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles.

One Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry

The Chemistry Department at Pomona College invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of inorganic chemistry, beginning Fall 2024. The position has a teaching load of five courses per year and the successful candidate will teach lecture and laboratory courses in inorganic chemistry, with contributions to the organic chemistry curriculum. Research facilities are available. A Ph.D. in chemistry is required.

One Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Music

The Music Department at Pomona College invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in music composition, beginning Fall 2024. The five-course teaching load will include an introductory and an advanced Electronic Music Studio course and a course addressing music composed after 1900. Other course offerings will be based on the candidate’s interests and departmental needs. Stylistic and theoretical areas of musical expertise are open. Teaching of these courses should reflect an inclusive vision of music composition and connect with contemporary developments and emerging technologies in electronic music.

Two Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Medieval and Early Modern Chinese and Japanese History

The History Department at Pomona College invites applications for a two-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Medieval and Early Modern Chinese and Japanese History, beginning Fall 2024. Priority will be given to historians with expertise on Japan before the Meiji era. The candidate should have Ph.D. in hand or advanced Ph.D. candidacy in History, with a research specialty in China or Japan before 1870. The successful candidate will teach five courses each year, including a survey history course on East Asian history that covers at least China and Japan. They will also be expected to teach research seminars that focus on chosen themes, such as gender, migration, labor, environment, science and technology, food, revolution, intellectual history, etc.
